Concrete & Heavy Debris Dumpsters in Parker, CO
Clay soils crack Douglas County flatwork on a schedule of their own. Low-side cans for concrete, rock, sod and arena sand, sized to the weight rather than to the space it fills.
Douglas County sits on expansive bentonite clay, and that single fact keeps flatwork contractors busy here year after year. The clay swells when it takes on water and shrinks hard in a semi-arid summer, so driveways lift at the joints, garage aprons separate, sidewalks tilt and patios crack along the same lines they cracked last time. Replacement is not a once-in-a-lifetime job in Parker. It is maintenance on a long cycle.
Heavy debris is hauled by weight, not by how much room it takes. Landscape rock and gravel run roughly 2,400 to 2,800 pounds per cubic yard depending on stone size and how wet it is. Broken concrete sits in the same territory. Sod with soil still attached is heavier than people believe, and arena sand out of a riding pen is heavier again. A 10 yard can looks half empty when it is already at its legal road limit.
The one lever you control is contamination. Clean concrete — no lumber attached, no dirt clods, no trash bags — goes to a crusher and comes back as aggregate, and that route is cheaper for you than sending the same load to a landfill as mixed debris. Keep the broken slab in one can and the forms, stakes and site rubbish in another, and the job costs less at both ends.
Heavy Loads We Haul Around Douglas County
Driveway and Apron Slabs
Broken flatwork lifted after clay heave, usually four inches thick with wire mesh. A single two-car driveway will fill a low-side heavy can on its own.
Landscape Rock and Cobble
River rock, cobble and crusher fines pulled during a xeriscape redo. At roughly 2,400 to 2,800 pounds a cubic yard, this is weight before it is volume.
Sod and Soil
Stripped turf carries its root zone with it and holds water. Let it dry a day before loading if you can; wet sod is the heaviest thing most homeowners handle.
Arena Sand and Stall Mats
Acreage properties east toward Franktown replace footing every few years. Sand loads fast and heavy; rubber mats are dense enough to count against the limit too.
Brick, Block and Pavers
Retaining wall block, clay brick and paver patios lifted after settlement. Stack them in rather than tipping a barrow, and the can loads more evenly.
Asphalt Millings and Chunks
Long gravel and asphalt drives on Douglas County acreage break up at the edges. Asphalt is recyclable when kept clean and separate from concrete.
Flagstone and Boulders
Colorado buff flagstone patios and the odd moss rock boulder. Roll boulders in from the ground with a ramp rather than lifting them over the rail.
Footings and Post Concrete
Deck footings, fence-post plugs and mailbox bases. Small pieces, big numbers — a hundred fence posts add up to a genuinely heavy load.
Why Heavy Debris Uses a Smaller Can
Heavy material goes in a 10 yard dumpster almost every time, and occasionally a 15 yard dumpster for a large flatwork job. That is not us being stingy with the box. It is the axle weights on the truck and the road limits it has to run under. Fill a 30 yard can with broken concrete and nobody can legally haul it. As a rough guide, a 10 yard can takes about six to seven cubic yards of concrete or rock before it is at the line, which is roughly the driveway of a Stonegate two-car garage at four inches thick. When in doubt, order two smaller cans.

Two rules make a heavy job go well. Keep the concrete clean, because clean concrete is crushed to aggregate and mixed loads are not: no plastic sheeting, no lumber, no dirt shovelled in at the end. Rebar and wire mesh cast into the slab are fine. The second rule is placement. A loaded heavy can concentrates a lot of weight on a small footprint, so we set protection boards under the rails, keep the can off decorative bands and paver ribbons, and photograph existing cracks on arrival — on this clay, most Douglas County driveways already have some. If the drive is newly poured, we will happily place on the street where the town allows it.

Concrete & Heavy Debris FAQs
Why can I not put concrete in a 30 yard dumpster?
Because the truck has to get it out of your driveway and down Parker Road legally. Concrete runs around a ton and a quarter per cubic yard, so a 30 yard can would be well over the axle limits before it was half full. A 10 yard low-side can is the right tool: it sits lower for wheelbarrow loading and it hits the target weight at a volume the truck can actually carry.
Is it cheaper to keep concrete separate from other debris?
Yes, materially so. Clean concrete goes to a crusher and comes back as road base or aggregate, and that disposal route costs less than landfilling the same tonnage as mixed construction debris. Contaminate the load with lumber, plastic or soil and it loses that path. On a driveway replacement we usually set a heavy can for the slab and a light can for forms, stakes and packaging.
How much landscape rock fits in a heavy debris can?
Figure six to seven cubic yards of rock or gravel before weight becomes the limit, which is a strip of river rock roughly forty feet by ten feet at four inches deep. Wet rock after a storm is heavier again. If you are converting a large front yard from rock to planting beds, it is normally two cans or a next-day swap rather than one oversized load.
Can you take arena sand and stall mats from a horse property?
Yes. Footing sand, screenings and rubber stall mats all go in a heavy can, and we run out to the acreage east and south of Parker regularly. Mark the septic field, the leach lines and the well head before we arrive, and tell us if the drive is soft — a loaded truck will rut a wet gravel road. Long drives usually want a turnaround identified in advance.
Will a full concrete dumpster crack my driveway?
It is a fair worry, and the honest answer is that Douglas County concrete is already under stress from the clay beneath it. We use protection boards as standard, keep the can square to the drive, and photograph the slab before setting down; see our driveway protection guide. Heavy cans are shorter and lower, which spreads the load better than a long container.
